Climb Kilimanjaro 6 Days Umbwe Route

The trek begins at Umbwe Gate with a steep climb through dense rainforest. The trail is narrow and winding, offering an immediate challenge. As you gain altitude, the vegetation starts to thin before reaching Umbwe Camp.

• Habitat: Moorland

The climb continues through rocky terrain as you approach the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak. You’ll reach Barranco Camp, where the route merges with the Machame Route.

• Habitat: Alpine Desert

The day starts with the famous Barranco Wall climb, an exciting but non-technical scramble. After reaching the top, the trail descends into the Karanga Valley before climbing again to Karanga Camp, a crucial acclimatization point.

A steep climb leads to Barafu Camp, the final stop before the summit attempt. You’ll rest early in preparation for the midnight ascent.

• Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) then down to 3,100m
• Hiking Time: 10-14 hours
• Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest

The summit attempt begins at midnight, with a slow and steady ascent through steep switchbacks. After reaching Stella Point (5,756m), the final stretch to Uhuru Peak offers incredible sunrise views. After celebrating at the summit, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for the night.

The final descent takes you through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate before heading back to your hotel.
