Overview

The 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and least crowded paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This route offers breathtaking views, diverse landscapes, and excellent acclimatization opportunities, increasing your chances of a successful summit. It begins on the western side of the mountain, passing through lush rainforests, moorlands, and alpine deserts before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895m.

Day 01 :

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 2,100m to 2,820m
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

Your journey starts at Londorossi Gate, followed by a drive to the trailhead. The trek begins through lush rainforest, where you may spot monkeys and various bird species. You will reach Mti Mkubwa Camp for your first night.

Day 02 :

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Elevation: 2,820m to 3,850m
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Moorland

The trail continues through the rainforest before transitioning into moorland. You will cross the Shira Plateau, offering stunning views of Mount Meru. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where you will rest and acclimatize.

Day 03 :

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

Elevation: 3,850m to 4,600m (Lava Tower) to 3,900m
Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today involves a crucial acclimatization hike. You ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp. This helps your body adjust to the altitude while passing through the beautiful but rugged landscape.

Day 04 :

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,900m to 3,995m
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

A thrilling climb up the Barranco Wall awaits, offering incredible views. The route then descends slightly into the Karanga Valley before reaching Karanga Camp for the night.

Day 05 :

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 3,995m to 4,673m
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Arctic Desert

The trail gets steeper as you approach Barafu Camp. You’ll have an early dinner and rest before the midnight summit attempt.

Day 06 :

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) then down to 3,100m
Hiking Time: 10-14 hours
Habitat: Arctic to Moorland

Summit day begins around midnight. The trek to Stella Point is challenging but rewarding, followed by the final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 07 :

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

The final descent takes you back through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate before returning to your hotel.
